Our Story
Love of (and for) children’s literature comes organically to Heather Schwartz Hebert, the second-generation proprietor of Children’s Book World in Haverford, Pennsylvania (“CBW”), whose mother, Hannah Schwartz, founded the store in 1989. For over 35 years, CBW has been a treasured resource for local children, parents, teachers, librarians, authors, and illustrators alike; providing our community with a singular selection of children’s books, wisdom from sage staff members, and plentiful opportunities to meet and interact with authors and illustrators from near and far.
Over the course of the past decade, as Heather brought authors, illustrators, and their books into the schools of the greater Philadelphia area, she noticed that there were children she couldn’t reach because their schools lacked the resources to fund special events. She dreamed of introducing the incredible people who create the books she sells to schools in underserved communities. She wanted to share her love of literature and literacy with children who don’t have equal access, and to give the literary artists she knows the opportunity to inspire life-changing creativity, imagination, and motivation.
Now, with the formation of Bringing Books to Life, Inc. Heather’s goal has become a reality. We believe that every child deserves to be inspired, to meet people who bring stories and possibility to life, and to have the opportunity to read the books these talented authors and illustrators create.
